– Stevens Creek Software has released version 5.0 of Birdwatcher's
Dairy for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad that supports user submission of
bird sightings lists directly to eBird from the field. In
addition, version 5.0 is the first iPad native version of
Birdwatcher’s Diary. Other advances include support for Dropbox,
ability to import bird photos, and many other new features and
ease-of-use improvements. The bird checklist app is available now in
the Apple iTunes App Store."Being able to upload their bird sightings to eBird directly from the iPhone appeals to many birders. And this is just one many new features in version 5.0. Version 5.0 of Birdwatcher's Dairy for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad supports submission of bird sightings lists directly to eBird from the field. eBird, a project of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, is an online database of worldwide bird observations submitted by ornithologists and amateur birders alike which provides researchers, scientists and the general public with real-time data about bird sightings and helps build a body of knowledge about wild bird species distribution and abundance. With just one tap you can now send your sightings list from your iPhone directly to eBird. You will have a chance to review the list before you send.
Version 5.0 introduces an iPad native version of Birdwatcher’s Diary (sold separately) which takes advantage of the larger screen size. The iPad version provides full support for both portrait and landscape screen orientations and support for all Bluetooth keyboards. The keyboard support is not just for text entry but also for navigation capabilities like scrolling, selecting species, and entering counts directly on the main screen. This allows for entering sightings completely via the keyboard with no screen interaction needed. Bluetooth keyboard support also works for the iPhone/iPod Touch versions of the app.
A third new feature is support for cloud storage using Dropbox. With a Dropbox account you can save and retrieve your archived sightings, view a list of your Dropbox archives, automatically backup new archives, and transfer your sightings from one iOS device to another via Dropbox.

- Ability to upload multiple photos
- Download any of the many worldwide master bird lists available on the Stevens Creek Software web site directly from the app.
- Many tips, prompts and warnings to help the user access features and avoid data entry mistakes

Birdwatcher's Diary runs on all iOS devices 3.1 or later. The iPhone/iPod Touch app is available for $12.99 (USD); the iPad app is $14.99 (USD). Both are priced accordingly in other regions. Stevens Creek Software donates 50% of its proceeds from this app to bird conservation organizations.
